Timothy Williams

Timothy Wayne Williams, aged 63, of Sardis City, died gracefully on Friday, 10 November 2023, at his home. 

Visitation will be at McRae Funeral Home in Boaz on Monday, 13 November, at 5:00 p.m.  A memorial service will be held at McRae Funeral Home on Tuesday, 14 November, at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Aroney, with Reverends David Porter, Jeff Allred, and Carlos Dinarte officiating and McRae Funeral Home directing.  Pallbearers will be Avery Ross, Lukas Mayo, Tanner Greer, Will Wright, Bob Blaker, Zack Childers, and Kirk Miller.

He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Haynes Williams of Sardis City; daughters Ivy Malone (Mark) of Washington, D.C., and Leigh Dinarte (Carlos) of Bowdon, Georgia; sons Daniel Williams (Mary) of Sardis City and Alex Reynolds (Julie) of Vestavia Hills; grandchildren Ben Dinarte, Major Malone, Vivienne Malone, Haynes Reynolds, and Bonnie Ann Williams; siblings Donald Williams of Boaz, Frankie Williams of Boaz, Susan Brown (Gene) of Southside, and Lisa Smith (Andy) of Huntsville; brother-in-law Keith Amos of Sardis City; brother-in-law Bert Haynes (Angela) of Delta; and a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Ruth and Nelson Williams; sister Kathy Amos; and grandparents Martha Jane and Martin Luther Williams and Bertie Mae and George Perry.

Tim was born 25 July 1960, at Boaz and Albertville Hospital.  He was a graduate of Sardis High School (1978), Snead State Community College (1980), and Auburn University (1982), where he majored in agricultural engineering.  He retired from the United States Department of Agriculture in December 2019, after a total of 35 years of service.

Tim loved his family.  He was a devoted husband and partner to Susan, and they took pride in their children.  One of the biggest joys of his life was his five grandchildren, on whom he doted at every opportunity.  Well respected and beloved within the community, he coached the sports teams of his children and indulged their pursuits like horseback riding. 

Tim instilled hard work into his children by carrying on the tradition of caring for his family’s farm, which they have held for four generations.  Raising cows and vegetables was something he taught his children, who are currently working on the fifth generation.  For a brief time, his attention was diverted from as much farm work as he’d have liked when he was asked to serve as the state engineer, but he promptly declined when asked if he’d want to serve permanently in the role, as it would have taken him away from the farm for too long. 

In retirement, Tim helped his son, Daniel, begin his farming operations.  Susan and Tim also worked diligently in their vegetable garden and took every opportunity to give away the bounty of fruits and vegetables he and Susan harvested.  They also enjoyed retirement by travelling with their friends, children, and grandchildren.  They crossed off quite a few locations like Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, and Maine. 

He was a member of Good Hope Delta Missionary Baptist Church.  He was known for being a hard worker, selfless, generous, and – above all – kind.  His contributions to family, churches, community, and state are a lasting legacy that will live on in the lives he touched.

The Williams family is especially thankful to the staff of Shepherd’s Cove Hospice, who helped diligently care for him in recent months, and to the director and staff of the Emory ALS Center.
