Thomas Callahan

It is with a sad heart to announce that after a brief battle, our brother Tom succumbed to

cancer on August 21, 2024 in Albertville Alabama..

Tom was born as Hans Peter Brandner in Ludwigshafen, Germany, to Luise Dörr and

Hans Witman. He was adopted by USAF LtCol Joseph and Jenoise Callahan.

Tom proved to be a gifted High School wrestler and athlete. Tom earned a Bachelor's in

Political Science and Criminal Justice from Connecticut University. While in the Army Tom

married Susan Humphries of Philadelphia Pa. Tom earned his second Bachelor’s degree in

Special Education from the University of Texas.

Tom taught and held certificates in Texas, Kansas, Colorado, and Indiana. He retired

after 20 years in education and settled in Albertville, Alabama, to be close to family. There he

made numerous friends and strong loving and caring relationships.

Tom was a voracious reader and loved dogs and cooking. He was a kind and selfless

man and loved by many.

Tom’s final days were spent in the loving and caring hands of angels at Shepherd’s Cove

Hospice in Albertville Al. The staff’s unselfish giving of themselves during Tom’s last stage of life

will never be forgotten as we are humbled by their Grace.

Tom will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Tom is preceded in death by his Fathers and Mothers. He is survived by his siblings

Marianne Leston (Al), James Callahan (Cecile), and David Callahan; his son Col. Sean

Callahan (Suk Ja Kim); grandsons William and Eli Callahan; and numerous cousins, nieces, and

nephews.

Tom selected cremation and did not desire a public service. In lieu of flowers, please

consider donations to Shepherd’s Cove Hospice in Albertville, an Animal Rescue/Shelter or

veteran’s charity.
