Roger Walters passed away on Oct. 15, 2023 at the age of 87, in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The only child of Grace Abbott Walters and J.C. Walters, Roger was born on Nov. 10, 1935 in Tifton, Georgia. Following graduation from Tifton High School, Roger earned his bachelor’s and master's degrees in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Georgia. He served six years in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Roger spent much of his professional career in the poultry processing industry where he held several leadership positions and received five patents and published 12 technical papers for his innovations. He was a Licensed Professional Engineer and consulted in the poultry industry, and in that work, traveled to many parts of the world, including Russia, Asia, and Central America. Later in his career, Roger began operating his own farm with both chickens and cattle, alongside his late wife, Sue. Together they were a fixture in Boaz and well known throughout the state-wide farming community. He and his wife Sue both filled many roles at First Baptist Church of Boaz, Alabama.
Roger’s memory lives on through his loved ones who recall his tenacity, strong work ethic, love of Georgia football and the woodworking he enjoyed in his retirement.
He is survived by his children Jody Sauls (Tim), John Walters (Tammy), Jeff Walters (Terri) and Julia Walters Smith; step-children Brad Crosson (Deanna) and Lacey Crosson-Cornelius (Chris Cornelius); grandchildren Katie King, Zac Sauls (Callen), Jessica Eldridge (Matt), Rachel Wright (Hal), Sarah Grace Kaschak (Kasey), Ingram Crosson, Rebekah Sauls, Gaines Crosson, Noel Turner (Lauren), Tyler Thomas (Alyssa), Kimberly Cornelius and Ann Bradlee Cornelius; and great grandchildren Brooklyn Lucas, Lola King, Amelia Sauls, Ellie Kate Sauls, Sutton Turner and Price Turner. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Sue Walters; first wife, Joyce Hancock Walters; and parents Grace and J.C. Walters.
Arrangements: Visitation will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 1-3 p.m. at McRae’s Funeral Home in Boaz, Al., followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m., and internment at Mount Flat Baptist Church.
Flowers are welcomed, but donations may also be made to the First Baptist Church of Boaz Building Fund - Kitchen Improvements.
