On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, Nancy Bell Putman Hefner passed away from her earthly home into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior at the age of 82. Nancy was born on August 14, 1941, to W. Henry Putman and Lillian Nabors Putman in Boaz. AL. She lived her entire life in the Union and Double Bridges Community.
Nancy was the youngest of four siblings and the daughter of a minister. Through her father’s ministry, she met and made many lifelong friends. One of her favorite memories was when her daddy would treat her to ice cream during their ministry travels. At the young age of thirteen, Nancy began an apprenticeship in cosmetology under the direction of her Aunt Lettie Wilson at Ramona Beauty Shop in Boaz. In 1959 she graduated from Boaz High School, in the same year she met the love of her life, William Clellan Hefner. They were married on April 16, 1960, and shared 60 wonderful years together until his passing in 2020. After they married, Clellan built Nancy her own shop, “Nancy’s Beauty Shop.” She owned and operated her shop until she was eighty years old. Nancy styled hair for many customers and built a loyal clientele over the years. In addition to being a beautician, her most treasured profession was being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Nancy enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She was known as a wonderful cook and for growing beautiful roses. Nancy and Clellan enjoyed traveling and were blessed to visit all forty-eight of the mainland states. She was a member of Sardis Baptist Church and Berea Sunday School Class, which she loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her darling husband William Clellan Hefner, granddaughter Kelsey Nicole Hefner, sister Maurine Putman Hall, brothers G.W. and Sherman Putman.
Nancy took great pride in her family and instilled Christian values. She is survived by her son William Keith Hefner of Huntsville, daughters Sheila Hefner Duvall (Terry) and Patricia Hefner Martinez (Bob) both of Boaz to whom she left a lasting legacy and lifetime of wonderful memories.
“Maw Maw” will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Hannah Duvall Bevel (John) of Albertville, Micah Duvall (Alaina) of Boaz, Jillian Hefner Boone (Dr. Tyler) of Franklin, TN, Anna Claire Hefner Pinczewski (Trey) of Hermitage, TN, Eli A.
