Mrs. Janey Gamble Brown, age 75, of Ross Dr., Boaz, Alabama, died Monday, June 27, 2011 at Riverview Regional Medical Center.
Service will be Wednesday June 29, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at McRae Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Bro. Richard Pettijohn and Bro. Keith Dodd will be officiating. McRae Funeral Home of Boaz, Alabama is in charge of the arrangements. (Gadsden Times: Visitation will be Tuesday evening 6 - 8 at the funeral home)
Mrs. Brown was born in Alabama on July 3, 1935 to Oscar & Alice Jones Gamble. She was a native of Whitesville and lived most of her life in Marshall County. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church Boaz. She was a choir member and Sunday School teacher. She had been very active in Civitan International particularly as club builder. She and her husband Barney were active Red Cross Disaster Relief volunteers. In the last year she served as a supervisor of in-kind donations for major national disasters.
Mrs. Brown is survived by his: Husband: Barney C. Brown of Boaz, Son & Daughter-in-Law: Gregory C. & Peggy Brown of North Carolina, Daughter & Son-in-Law: Regina B. & David Miller of Harvest, Grandchildren: Morgan Miller Brown (Chris), Justin D. Miller (Brooke) and Anna C. Brown, Great Grandson: Shawn A. Brown, Sister & Brother-in-Law: Betty & Dwight Teal of Boaz. She was preceded in death by her parents, Brothers: Fred Gamble and J. W. Gamble and Sisters: Evelyn Jones, Marge Ponder and Lucille Teal.
Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be members of her husband's Sunday School class.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to: Etowah County Red Cross, 405 South First Street, Gadsden, AL 35901. Visitation: Tuesday 6p.m. till 8p.m.
