Gertrude Ross

January 18, 1918 — October 25, 2011

Mrs. Gertrude Young Ross, Age: 93 of East Sparks Ave., Boaz, Alabama died Oct. 25, 2011 at her residence.

Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at McRae Chapel with Bro. Josh Young and Bro. Wayne Tarvin officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. McRae Funeral Home, Boaz, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ross was born in Alabama on Jan. 18, 1918 to James Martin Young, Sr. and Lilie Temple Young. She was married to Herbert Ross, who died in February, for 72 years. She was a retired educator with 23 years of service having taught school in both Marshall and Etowah Counties. Mrs. Ross was the 2009 Marshall County retired Educator of the year and a 1975 Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church. Mrs. Ross and her husband Herbert enjoyed camping and traveling and were proud to have visited all 50 states.

Mrs. Ross is survived by her Children: Daughter & Friend: Glenda Whiteside & Wayne Wilhelm of Gadsden, Daughter & Son-in-Law: Charlotte & Steve Jenkins of Boaz, Son & Daughter-in-Law: Randy & Ann Ross of Texas, Grandchildren: Tim Whiteside, Todd Jenkins, Sandy Turner, Shara Floyd and Jonathan Jenkins, Great Grandchildren: Brett Whiteside, Nikki Jenkins, Brittny Jenkins, Josh Jenkins, Noah Turner, Breiann Floyd, Mason Aguleria, Ashlyn Floyd, Ellie Jenkins, Ella Grace Whiteside, Brooks Whiteside, and Hope Jenkins, Great Great Granddaughter: Isabella Edwards, Brother: James "Jim" Young of Boaz, Special Friends: Dwight & Betty Teal, Fred & Maudell Springfield, Kathy Garlowich, Genny Johnson, Judy Darnell, Ruth Ray, Rebecca Myatt and Kim Griffith. She was preceded in death by her Husband: Herbert Ross.

Pallbearers will be Tim Whiteside, Todd Jenkins, Jonathan Jenkins, Brett Whiteside, Josh Jenkins, Noah Turner, Mason Aguleria, Jeremy Turner, Gary Floyd and LaDale Childress. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sandy Turner, Shara Floyd, Nikki Jenkins, Brittny Jenkins Breiann Floyd, Ashlyn Floyd, Ellis Jenkins, Ella Grace Whiteside, Brooks Whiteside, Hope Jenkins, Isabella Edwards, Beth Whiteside, Jamie Jenkins and her Nieces & Nephews.

The family would like to extend a special "Thank you" to Caregivers Charlotte Gallman and Stacie Burns, North Alabama Hospice, Patty Pounds, Dr. Soliman and the 6th Floor Nurses of Huntsville Hospital.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to North Alabama Hospice or the Children's Home of Decatur.
